Approximately 175 people attended the opening ceremony on this sunny day, including (potential) clients, a number of city councilors, scientists and colleagues. When the official button was pushed, heavy sound vibrations propagated from the speakers, which could clearly be felt and even activated a few car alarm systems. Speeches were held by Ms Bergkamp, Ton Hoff, the chairman of ECN, and Pier Nabuurs. The Flex Power Grid Lab offers an ideal test and research environment for advanced power electronics.
The laboratory, half of which has been financed equally by KEMA and by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, is the result of a public-private partnership between KEMA on the one hand, ECN (on behalf of the universities) and SenterNovem on the other hand.
